St.Michael's is situated in the picturesque Cotswold village of Guiting Power. I often jog past this beautiful Church and couldn't resist the idea of painting it.
Of course, there are no black and white tiles at the entrance but they have become one of my motifs and helped enormously when forming the narrative of this particular painting. There are unfinished areas of those tiles including a familiar symbolic shape in the foreground shadows.
I wanted to draw your eye to the gate which I have deliberately omitted, and you'll notice the street lamp is on. Both are indications of welcome.
'Unfinished' or, if you prefer, unfinished Business, is just a personal viewpoint about the need for modernization and for mankind to re-embrace it's evaporating spirituality by acknowledging such places as this.
